Discover the process behind installing a bimini on this Super Yacht

We usually reveal the end result of projects, but here at Heavy Seas, this time, we are going to share all the details of the process on one of our latest projects, where we have transformed a majestic super yacht, through the expert installation of a custom-made bimini.

The creation of the bimini: A meticulous process

The technical process of creating a bimini for a super yacht usually involves several meticulous steps, ranging from initial conceptualization to final implementation. Below, we detail some key aspects:

  1. Consultation and Conceptual Design: The process begins with a detailed consultation between the design team and the client to understand specific needs and preferences. Based on this information, a conceptual design is created that will serve as a starting point for the development of the bimini.
  2. 3D Design: We use specialized 3D design software to create a virtual model of the bimini. This step allows you to view the design from different angles, make adjustments as necessary, and ensure it meets the client’s aesthetic and functional requirements.
  3. Engineering and Optimization: Once the 3D design is complete, we proceed to the engineering phase, where we perform structural calculations and optimize the geometry to ensure its strength, durability, and stability in various maritime conditions.
  4. Material Selection: We carefully choose the most suitable materials for the construction of the bimini, considering factors such as weather resistance, weight, ease of maintenance, and aesthetics. Materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, and UV-resistant fabrics can be used.
  5. Manufacturing: With the design and materials defined, we can proceed with bimini manufacturing. This involves, on the one hand, welding metal structures, a process that requires skill and precision to guarantee the structural integrity of the bimini. At the same time, we are working on making the canopy. We cut and sew the selected fabrics according to the required dimensions and shapes, ensuring a precise fit over the structure. Additionally, we use durable sewing techniques and apply reinforcements in areas of tension to ensure the canopy’s durability in adverse maritime conditions.
  6. Installation and Testing: Once the bimini is manufactured, comes the ultimate test, the installation on the super yacht following the design specifications. First, we conduct comprehensive tests to verify its functionality and durability, ensuring that it meets the required quality and safety standards.
  7. Finishing and Delivery: Finally, we carry out final finishes, such as polishing metal surfaces and cleaning the fabric.

This process integrates from 3D design to engineering, manufacturing, and testing to ensure the creation of a custom bimini that not only enhances the aesthetics of the super yacht but also provides optimal protection and comfort to its occupants.
